De_Strict

A Competitive 5v5 CSGO Map

Map Description

Based in a USA Mid-Western modern boom-town. New construction is underway on the City Bank Building, which is causing some controversy regarding the money that is supporting the project and the neglect of areas near the development. The Terrorists have already hatched their plan by blowing up the bridge in the market, but plan to do more damage to the campaign specifically. The Counter-Terrorist is on the scene to Defend the Market and City Bank Building from destruction.

Goals

My goals consisted of creating a modern design of a clover-leaf layout while taking inspiration from FPS counterparts. I wanted to make a unique mid/short-interaction between Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists map control while keeping familiar gameplay that is within Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. I divided the middle section in half, making each side have a small advantage from their spawns. Fast Team-Play is required to successfully hold middle from both teams, similar to Ancient Spawn smokes.

With Counter-Strike: 2 now available, I’m working to keep the aesthetic of the level clean with minimal player silhouette issues. I also took advantage of some lighting opportunities for when the map gets ported to Source 2, as the color gradients and shadows are 100x times better in the new engine.

Community

Throughout development, I believe playtesting should be an integral part of the development process. I invited as many friends in as possible to get early playtesting feedback, only letting a few players play throughout the process. This provided me with narrowed insight into the gameplay and player reactions but the dynamics within teamplay was still unknown to me.

Early Playtesting and one-on-one sessions allowed me to cater to different playstyles and invite new boundaries to the original design. This was crucial in turning my design from spaghetti to a competitively memorable level.
